Rural General Hospital Core placement
Broad clinical skills across medical, surgical, and emergency presentations. The primary rural placement type.
Aged Care (Regional) Consistent demand
Consistent demand in regional facilities. Similar requirements to metro aged care placements.
Emergency (Rural & Remote) Specialist demand
Extended skills and flexibility across clinical presentations required. Some facilities are the sole emergency point of care for large regional areas.
What you need

What you need to work in this specialty.

Requirement Detail
Minimum experience Minimum 12 months post-graduate experience. Rural placements require broad clinical flexibility as nurses may work across multiple settings within one facility.
Pre-arrival certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) must be current. Some facilities require Advanced Life Support (ALS) given the isolated nature of rural emergency care. IV cannulation and medication administration competencies required.
Orientation period Typically 1–3 days facility induction. Rural placements often involve a shorter formal orientation due to immediate staffing need, but experienced supervisors are always available.
AHPRA registration Required before starting work. We can provide guidance and support throughout the AHPRA process.
